Competitive prep

Soccer tryout prep on the North Shore

Tryouts reward players who arrive sharp, fit, and confident. A focused block of sessions gets them there.

Every spring, North Shore players compete for spots in BCSPL, Metro, and select-level teams — and evaluators make fast judgments: first touch under pressure, speed of play, positioning, work rate, body language. A targeted 4–8 session block before tryouts sharpens exactly those signals, builds match fitness, and — just as important — walks into day one with confidence instead of nerves.

Coaches on My Soccer Coach include players and coaches who've been through competitive pathways themselves. Check each coach's background on their profile, and consider a 5-session pack — most coaches discount them, and a short intensive block is exactly what tryout prep calls for.

Common questions

When should we start preparing?
Ideally 6–8 weeks before tryouts — enough time for real technical and fitness gains without cramming. A late 2–3 session tune-up still helps with sharpness and confidence.
What do evaluators actually look for?
First touch, speed of decision-making, positioning, 1v1 ability on both sides of the ball, work rate, and coachability. Good prep trains the habits evaluators can see in the first ten minutes.
What's the difference between BCSPL, Metro, and Division soccer?
They're tiers of competitive youth soccer in BC — BCSPL is the top provincial league, Metro sits above Division play at the district level. Check Coaches' Corner for our full parents' guide to the BC youth soccer pathway.
